Conservatory blinds in Tyldesley

Pleated blinds cut to the shape of your roof, Perfect Fit down the sides, and thermal-backed fabrics that take the worst off a July afternoon.

Too hot in July, too open to the neighbours

Two things bring people to a conservatory blind: the room is unusable in summer, or anyone walking past can see straight in. Usually both at once.

Privacy is the easy half, and side blinds sort it. Temperature is the part worth getting right, and it depends far more on what goes over the roof than on what goes at the sides.

The roof

Most of the heat arrives through the glass above your head, so side blinds on their own will not cool a conservatory down. Pleated blinds are what we fit to roofs: slim, cut to the shape of the panel rather than a plain rectangle, and they fold back to almost nothing when you want the light again. Conservatory roofs are what we have spent years measuring, and a roof panel is rarely a neat rectangle.

The sides

Perfect Fit is usually the answer down the sides. The frames clip into the bead around each unit, so nothing is drilled into the uPVC, there is no chain hanging down and your windowsill stays free. Sitting that close to the glass is also what makes a thermal-backed fabric earn its keep.

Gables and odd shapes

Gable ends, angled panes and shapes that are not rectangles are ordinary work for a conservatory roof, and most of what we are asked for is doable. We will not promise before we have seen it, though. Send a photograph or let us call round first.

Simon measures the conservatory and writes the price down while he is stood in it, and it is Simon back on the stepladder when the blinds go up.

What goes in a conservatory

Three jobs in one room, and they want three different answers.

Roof blinds Pleated. Slim enough to sit close to the glass, shaped to the panel, and out of the way in seconds when you want the light back.
Side blinds Perfect Fit for most conservatories. It holds the fabric tight against the pane, and on a door or an opener it travels with the frame.
Fixings Perfect Fit needs no holes in the uPVC at all. Anything else, you hear what we have to fix into before we start, not after.
Operation Nothing dangling on Perfect Fit, and the sill stays clear for whatever usually lives on it.
Fabrics Plain and patterned, plus the performance fabrics that carry a coating on the reverse. We bring the sample books to the conservatory itself, so you see them in the light they will live in.
Shapes Gables, angled panes, anything that is not a rectangle. We look before we promise.
Measuring and price We measure up at no charge and leave the price with you in writing. Nothing to sign while we are there.

The manufacturer's warranty

Every conservatory blind comes with the manufacturer's warranty. It varies by blind and by manufacturer, so ask us before you order and we will tell you which one applies to what you have chosen. Separately from that, if something is not right once they are up, ring us and we will come and look at it. All of it is in addition to your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, never instead of them.

What a blind can and cannot do to a hot conservatory

Thermal-backed fabrics make a difference you will genuinely feel. They are not air conditioning, and we would sooner tell you that now than after you have paid for them.

In summer

Many of our fabrics carry a coating on the reverse, the side facing the glass. It reflects a good deal of the sun's heat back out before it reaches the room, which is what stops a conservatory feeling like a sauna by mid-afternoon.

What it will not do is make a south-facing conservatory cool in August. Anyone who tells you a blind will manage that is selling you something.

In winter

The same coating works the other way round. Glass is the coldest surface in the room, and the fabric slows the heat escaping through it. That is the difference between a conservatory you can sit in on a February afternoon and one that feels like a fridge.

It works hardest behind Perfect Fit, because that holds the fabric tight to the pane instead of leaving a gap for cold air to circulate through. There is more on how the fabrics work.

Common questions

If yours is not here, ring and ask. We would rather answer it on the phone than have you guess.

Do I need blinds on the roof as well as the sides?

If the problem is privacy, side blinds on their own will do it. If the problem is heat, the heat comes in through the roof and side blinds alone will not fix it. Most people who ring us in July end up doing the roof.

What type of blind goes in a conservatory roof?

Pleated. They are slim, they fold back to almost nothing, and they can be made to the shape of the panel rather than a plain rectangle. That is why they are what we fit up there.

Will you have to drill into my uPVC frames?

Not for Perfect Fit. The frames clip into the bead around each unit, so there are no holes in the uPVC and nothing hanging down. For any other type we will tell you what fixing the window needs before we start, not after.

Can you do a gable end or an odd-shaped pane?

Usually, yes. Angled and shaped panels are ordinary work for a conservatory roof. We will not promise before we have seen it though, so send a photograph or let us call round.

How do I clean conservatory blinds?

A regular dust, and a wipe with a damp cloth on the fabrics that take it. Roof blinds gather more dust than side ones simply because they sit flat. Ask Simon when he brings the samples and he will tell you which fabric you are choosing and how it is best kept.

Child safety

Perfect Fit frames have no control cords, which is the simplest way to make a conservatory safe by design. If there are small children or pets in the house, say so when we come to measure and we will show you the cordless options. More on child safety.

The rest of what we fit

Ten more, every one measured at your own window and fitted by us.

Want a price for your conservatory?

Give us a ring and we will call round with the sample books, measure the roof and the sides, and work the price out while we are there. Evenings and weekends are no bother.
