Vision blinds in Tyldesley
Two layers of striped fabric, one behind the other. Line the stripes up for the light, slide them over for privacy, or roll the lot into the cassette.
Sheer and solid stripes that slide past each other
You may have seen these called day and night blinds, zebra blinds or twist blinds. They are all the same thing. Vision is the name of the range we fit.
A Vision blind is two layers of striped fabric, one behind the other. Pull the chain and the solid stripes line up with the see-through ones, and you get daylight with a soft filter. Pull it again and the solid stripes close over the gaps, and you get privacy. Keep pulling and the whole thing rolls up into the cassette at the top and you have got your window back completely.
It is the same chain for all of it, which is why people find them easy to live with. It is the blind we suggest when somebody wants to soften strong daylight and cut the glare on a television or a screen without shutting the room in.
The honest limitations. It is not a blackout blind: even fully closed, some light comes through the weave, so for a bedroom where somebody sleeps in the day we would put a roller or a roman in instead. And after dark, with a lamp on behind it, the daytime privacy does not work the same way.
Rooms where you want the light but not the audience
Vision blinds soften excess daylight and cut glare, while leaving you the choice of seeing out. That suits some rooms far better than others.
Where they work well
- Front rooms facing the road. Filter the daylight and keep the street out during the day, then roll the blind away when you want the window back.
- Landings and stair windows, where you want a bit of privacy without making the hall dark.
- Offices and screens. If the sun lands on a television or a monitor at four o'clock, this takes the edge off without blacking the room out.
- Instead of a venetian. The same control over the light, no slats to dust, and a plain sheet of fabric when it is fully rolled up.
Where we would suggest something else
- A bedroom for anybody who sleeps in the day. It is not blackout.
- Full privacy after dark with a lamp on behind it.
- A very wide patio span, where you would end up with several blinds side by side and verticals would cover it in one.
- A house where you want nothing hanging at all. There is a chain, so look at a Senses roller instead.
Fabric and operation

| Fabrics | Sheer metallics, subtle tones and natural woodweave effects, in bold stripes or quieter colour blocks. |

Vision blinds, answered plainly
If yours isn't here, ring the showroom on 01942 882 181 and ask. It costs nothing to find out.
Are Vision blinds the same as day and night blinds?
Yes. Vision is the name of the range, and the same blind gets called a day and night blind, a zebra blind or a twist blind depending on who is selling it. If you have seen one you liked in a friend's house and did not catch the name, this is almost certainly it.
How do you work a Vision blind?
One chain does everything. It slides the opaque and translucent woven stripes past each other, and the same chain raises and lowers the blind to any height in the window, in the same way as a classic roller blind. Keep going and it rolls up fully into the cassette headrail to leave an uninterrupted view outside.
Are Vision blinds blackout?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise has not lived with one. Even with the solid stripes fully closed, some light comes through the weave. For a bedroom where somebody sleeps in the day we would put a roller or a roman blind in instead, and say so at the visit.
How do they work at night with the lights on?
Differently from the daytime. With a lamp on behind the blind, the daytime privacy does not work the same way, which is true of any sheer fabric. It is worth thinking about what the window looks onto before you choose, and it is exactly the sort of thing we will raise while we are measuring.
Ask Simon how a Vision blind works or what the fabrics are like. He is happy to talk it through on the phone, and there is nothing to sign at the end of it. Or email mjblindsltd@gmail.com.
If there are children or pets in the house
A Vision blind is worked by a chain. Tell us when we come out and we will go through the safe options with you before anything is ordered. If you would rather have nothing hanging at all, a Senses roller is cordless, with no control cords of any kind. More on child safety.
