Privacy notice
This page says what happens to your details when you contact us: what we ask for, why we hold it, who else sees it, how long we keep it and how to have it deleted. This site sets no cookies and does not track you.
Who is responsible for your details
M.J. Blinds is the data controller for everything described on this page. That means we are the ones who decide what is collected and what happens to it.
We trade from 45 Castle Street, Tyldesley, Greater Manchester M29 8FP. The business is family run and has been fitting blinds in Tyldesley since 1983.

To ask us anything about your details, or to ask us to delete them:
- Email mjblindsltd@gmail.com
- Phone 01942 882 181 or 07929 366 127
- Write to us at 45 Castle Street, Tyldesley, Greater Manchester M29 8FP
We are a small family firm, so there is no data protection officer and we are not required to have one. If you ring, ask for Simon.
What we collect
There is not much of it, and you can see all of it on the contact page.
The enquiry form asks for five things:
- your name
- your phone number
- your town or postcode
- what you are after
- when it suits you for us to visit
That is the whole form. It does not ask for your email address and there is nothing else hidden in it.
If you ring us, email us or call in at the showroom instead, we have whatever you choose to tell us. That is usually your name, a number to ring you back on, roughly where you are and what you are looking for. If you email, we also have your email address.
If you go ahead and order, we keep the address we are fitting at, the measurements taken at your windows, what was made and fitted, and what you paid.
Separately from any of that, our web host records standard server log data for every visit, whether you fill anything in or not. That includes your IP address, the page you asked for, the date and time, and the browser you used. It is there to keep the site running and to spot attacks on it.
Why we hold it, and the lawful basis
UK GDPR says we have to have a lawful basis for each thing we do with your details, and say what it is. Here they are.
| To answer your enquiry | To ring you back, arrange a home visit, take measurements and work out a price. Lawful basis: legitimate interests. The interest is a plain one. You have asked us to get in touch, and we cannot do that without your number. |
|---|---|
| To carry out your order | To have the blinds made to your sizes, fit them, invoice you and come back out if there is a problem later. Lawful basis: contract. |
| To keep our accounts | Records of what we have sold and what we were paid. Lawful basis: legal obligation. Tax law requires us to keep them. |
| To keep the website working | The server log data described above. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, in keeping the site up and secure. |
We do not use your details for anything else. Nothing on this site profiles you and no decision about you is made automatically.
Who else sees it
Only the firms that have to, for the job to work at all. This is the full list.
- Cloudflare hosts this website. The pages come off their servers, and it is their server logs that hold the IP address data described above.
- Resend delivers the enquiry email. When you send the form, what you typed goes through Resend to reach our inbox.
- Google, in two ways. The type on this site is loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google's servers for the font files, and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. And our email address is a Gmail one, so an enquiry that reaches us sits in a Google mailbox, the same as any other email you send us.
- Blind manufacturers, only where an order needs it. To have a blind made we send the maker the sizes and the specification. That is what they need to make it. Nothing goes to a manufacturer off the back of an enquiry that has not turned into an order.
- Anyone we are obliged to tell by law, such as HMRC or a court.
That is the whole list. We do not sell personal data, we do not swap it, and we do not pass it to anyone for their own marketing.
Cloudflare, Resend and Google are US companies and their servers sit in a number of countries, so some of this handling happens outside the UK. Each of them offers the transfer terms UK data protection law requires for that, and those are the terms we rely on.
How long we keep it
| An enquiry that does not lead to an order | 12 months, then we delete it. That is long enough that if you ring back in the spring we still know which windows we looked at and what we quoted. |
|---|---|
| Customer records | 6 years. Tax records have to be kept, and 6 years is also how long someone has to bring a claim about work we did, so we need to be able to look back at what we fitted. |
| Server log data | Held by our host under its own retention rules and deleted by them. We do not keep copies of it. |
You do not have to wait for those periods to run out. Ask us to delete your enquiry and we will, unless it is part of a record we are legally required to keep.
No cookies, no tracking, no marketing list
The short version
This site sets no cookies. There is no analytics on it, no advertising tags, no pixels and no chat widget. Nothing here follows you to another website. That is why you will not see a cookie banner.
Filling in the form does not sign you up to anything. We have no mailing list and no newsletter, so there is nothing to be added to and nothing to unsubscribe from.
If you ask us for a price and decide not to go ahead, you will not hear from us again unless you get in touch.
Your rights
These are yours under UK GDPR. Using them costs nothing and we will not think anything of it.
- Access. Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Rectification. Have anything wrong put right, a mistyped number or a wrong address.
- Erasure. Ask us to delete it. We can only say no where we are required to keep something, such as an invoice in our accounts.
- Restriction. Ask us to stop using it for a while, for instance while a dispute about it is sorted out.
- Objection. Object to us using your details under legitimate interests. You can do that at any time.
- Portability. Ask for the details you gave us in a machine-readable file, or ask us to send them to someone else.
Ring, email or write, using the details at the top of this page. We will answer within one month. We may ask you something first to check who you are, because we are not handing your details to somebody who says they are you.
If you are not happy with how we have handled it
Tell us first if you can. Ring 01942 882 181 or email mjblindsltd@gmail.com and we will look into it. It is usually something we can put right the same day.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator for data protection. You can go to them whether or not you have spoken to us first.
