Pleated blinds in Tyldesley & Greater Manchester

The most versatile blind we make. It can be cut to the shape of the glass, which is why it ends up in most of the conservatory roofs round here.

A concertina of fabric that folds down to almost nothing

That is the whole point of a pleated blind. When it is open it takes up about two centimetres at the top of the glass, so on a conservatory roof it is not sitting there blocking the view all summer.

It is also the only thing we make that can be cut to a shape. Triangles, gable ends, the odd five-sided pane a builder left you — a pleated blind can be made to fit those where a roller or a venetian simply cannot.

Most of the fabrics come with a coating on the back that faces the glass. It bounces the sun's heat back out in summer and holds a bit of warmth in over winter. It will not turn a conservatory into a lounge on the hottest day of the year, but it makes a real difference, and it is why we fit more of these in conservatories than anything else.

They come in bold colours and in quieter patterns, so there is no reason one cannot go in an ordinary bedroom or a kitchen either.

Not sure a pleated blind is the right answer for your window? Say so when you ring. If a roller or a roman would do the same job for less, that is what we will tell you.

What you can have

The details people ask about before they order one.

Where they go Conservatory roofs, gables and side windows. Skylights and roof windows. Shaped and angled openings. Ordinary bedroom, bathroom and kitchen windows as well.
Shapes Cut to the shape of the glass, angles and all, so a gable end is no trouble.
When it is open Folds back to about two centimetres at the top of the glass.
Fabric Bold colours and quieter patterns, to suit the room it is going in.
Performance coatings Many of the fabrics have a backing on the side facing the glass, which helps with the heat both ways.
Fitting Fixed to the frame, or clipped in on the Perfect Fit system, where nothing is drilled and nothing protrudes onto the sill.
Controls Cordless, or the control put out of a child's reach. Most of those options cost nothing extra.
Cleaning Dust them, or run the brush head of the vacuum along the folds now and then. Do not soak them.
Warranty The manufacturer's warranty that comes with the blind. It varies by blind and by manufacturer, so ask us and we will tell you what covers yours before you order. What the warranty covers

When a pleated blind is the right call, and when it isn't

We would rather tell you at the door than sell you the wrong blind and hear about it later.

Good for

  • Conservatory roofs, gables and side windows
  • Skylights and roof windows
  • Shaped, angled and awkward openings
  • Windows where you want the glass back — it folds to almost nothing
  • Fitting into a uPVC frame with no drilling, on the Perfect Fit system

Probably not for

  • A plain rectangular window where you only want it dark — a roller or a roman is simpler and costs less
  • A wide patio door, where verticals cover the span better and cheaper
  • Anyone expecting the coating to remove the heat rather than take the edge off it
  • A fabric you want to put through the wash — these want dusting, not soaking

Measured off your glass, not off a chart

No two conservatories come out the same shape. The man who goes up the ladder with the tape is the one who comes back with the brackets.

  1. 1

    We measure every pane

Roof, gable, sides and any skylight, taken one pane at a time so the shaped ones are right.

  2. 2

You choose in the room itself

We bring the sample books into the conservatory, where the light is, and you hold them up against your own glass.

  3. 3

We come back and fit them

Then we fit the lot, tidy up and take the packaging away with us.

Questions we get asked

If yours is not here, ring the showroom on 01942 882 181 and ask. It costs nothing to find out.

Can you make a pleated blind for a shaped window?

That is the main reason people ring us about them. The fabric can be cut to an angle, so a gable end, a triangle over a door, or whatever shape the builder left you, is usually doable where a roller or a venetian is a non-starter. Show us the window and we will tell you straight whether it can be made.

Do you fit conservatory roof blinds as well as the sides?

Yes. Roofs are the bulk of the conservatory work we do. The sides, the gable end and any skylight windows can all be measured on the same visit, so everything matches and everything goes up on the same day.

Will they keep a conservatory cooler in summer?

Cooler, yes. A hot day is still a hot day. The backing on the fabric sends a good part of the sun straight back out before it reaches the room, and come January it works the other way round. It takes the edge off rather than fixing it, and that is why more of these go into conservatories round here than any other blind.

Can I have them fitted without drilling the frames?

Usually, yes. Pleated blinds work with the Perfect Fit system, where the blind sits in a slim frame that clips into the bead around a uPVC unit instead of being screwed to it. Nothing is drilled and nothing protrudes onto the sill.

With children about

Every blind we fit is available cordless, or with the control put out of a child's reach, and most of those options cost nothing extra. Tell us there are small children or pets in the house when we come out and we will start there rather than treat it as an extra.
