Wooden blinds

Real timber slats, cut to your own windows and put up by us, across Tyldesley and Greater Manchester. Whether it is the classic look you are after or a high gloss finish, wood brings weight and warmth to a window.

Real wood venetian blinds with wide slats on a bay window
Wooden blinds hang dead straight and close with a thunk rather than a rattle.

The heavy end of the range, and they feel it

Real timber slats have a weight to them, so they hang dead straight and they shut tight. In a bay or a big living-room window they do more for a room than anything else we fit.

The 65mm slat is the one worth knowing about. It is curved rather than flat, so when it closes the slats overlap and very little light gets through the gaps. If privacy at night is the point of the blind, that is the one to ask about.

A timber slat is solid, so a wooden blind is either tilted or closed. There is no sheer setting the way there is with a fabric blind. Tilt them and the daylight comes in off the ceiling. Close them and the room goes dim.

Six shades run from white through to very dark, so matching a floor or a door frame is usually straightforward. Shades are hard to judge on a screen. Send us a photograph, or we will hold the sample books against your own floor and your own woodwork, in your own light.

Where wood is worth it, and where it is not

Good for

  • Bays and big living-room windows, where the weight suits the room
  • Bedrooms, if you want a proper close at night
  • Matching a wooden floor, a door frame or the furniture

Probably not for

  • A shower room or anywhere that gets steamy — we would not put real timber in there
  • They are not the cheapest thing we make
  • A wide window in one piece is worth asking about first, because wood is heavy
  • If a venetian suits you better we will say so — same idea, 25mm aluminium instead of timber, lighter and cheaper and it copes with damp

We would rather talk you out of the wrong blind than fit it and hear about it a year later.

What people ask us about wooden blinds

If yours is not here, ring the showroom on 01942 882 181 and ask.

What slat widths do you do?

35mm, 50mm and 65mm. The 35mm and 50mm slats are flat. The 65mm is curved, so the slats overlap when they close and very little light gets through the gaps.

What colours do wooden blinds come in?

Six shades, from white at EW:01 through to very dark at EW:06, plus a high gloss painted finish. That is usually enough to match a floor, a door frame or the furniture. Take a photograph of the woodwork and send it over, or wait until we call round and put the real shades next to it.

Can I have wooden blinds in a bathroom?

We would steer you away from a shower room or anywhere that gets steamy. Real timber and steam do not get on. An aluminium venetian copes with damp and gives you the same tilt control, so that is usually what we suggest instead.

How do I clean wooden blinds?

It is a dry job. Run a soft cloth or a brush along the slats every so often. Timber does not want soaking, so keep the damp cloth for the aluminium blinds.

Children or pets in the house?

Say so at the quote. Much of the range is cordless, and where there is a cord loop we fix it out of reach. Most of those options cost nothing extra, and it is easier to sort out before the blinds are made than afterwards. Read about child safety.

The rest of the range

Nine other kinds of blind, plus plantation shutters. We cut them to your windows and we put them up.
