Roman blinds in Tyldesley & Greater Manchester

Thick, soft folds that make a window feel warm, with blackout lining as standard. The man who quotes you is the man who hangs them.

The nearest a blind gets to a curtain

A roman is fabric. It folds up in soft horizontal pleats and it takes the hard edge off a room in a way a flat blind can't. Similar to a curtain to look at, but practical like a blind to live with.

Ours come with blackout lining as standard, which is why most of them end up in bedrooms. It's worth knowing that's included rather than an upgrade, because a lot of places charge extra for it.

Two honest things to plan for. First, a roman keeps its folds at the top of the window when it's up, so it never disappears completely the way a roller does, and on a short window that stack eats into your glass. Second, fabric is fabric. It won't wipe clean, so we wouldn't put one over a hob or in a shower room.

Everywhere else, they're the nicest thing we make.

A fabric that looks warm under a shop light can look cold against your own walls. That's why we call round with the books and hold the cloth up against your own glass instead of asking you to guess. It costs you nothing and there is nothing to sign.

What you can choose

Every one is cut to the window it goes in. The rest is down to what you like the look of.

Roman blind fabric and operation options
Fabric Designs and prints, or plain colours. We bring the sample books to your window so you see them in your own light.
Lining Blackout lining as standard on every roman blind we make. Included, not charged as an upgrade.
Finishing touches Decorative braids along the bottom, pulls, and modern eyelets. It's a small thing on the quote and it's what makes a roman look made rather than bought.
Operation Up or down, like a roller. There is no in-between setting that lets the light in but keeps the street out.
Controls Cordless options, or the looped cord kept up out of reach. Most of those options cost nothing extra.
Measuring and price We call round and measure for nothing, and you get the price written down before we leave.
Warranty Every blind comes with the manufacturer's warranty. It varies by blind and by manufacturer, so ask us and we'll tell you what covers the one you pick.

Where a roman belongs, and where it doesn't

We'd rather talk you out of the wrong blind than fit it and hear about it a year later.

Good for

  • Bedrooms. The blackout lining is standard, not an extra.
  • Living rooms and dining rooms that feel a bit hard and flat.
  • Anyone who likes the look of a curtain but wants a blind to look after.
  • Windows where the fabric is the point. Print, colour, braid and all.

Probably not for

  • Over a hob, or in a shower room. Fabric won't wipe clean.
  • Short windows, where the folded stack at the top eats into your glass.
  • A window you're forever opening and shutting. It's cloth, and it gets handled.

Blackout as standard, and what that means

The lining goes on every roman blind we make, so a bedroom goes properly dark rather than dim. That matters if anyone in the house works nights, or if the sun comes round the back at five in the morning in June.

Like a roller, a roman is up or down. If you want light in and the street out at the same time, a venetian gives you that by tilting the slats. A roman gives you softness and proper darkness instead, which is a different job.

They can't be wiped down like a roller. A gentle go over with the brush head of the vacuum keeps the dust out of the folds, and that is most of the work. Beyond that it depends on the cloth, so ask us while the sample book is open in front of you.

What people ask us about roman blinds

If yours isn't here, ring the showroom on 01942 882 181 and ask.

Do roman blinds come with blackout lining?

Yes. We supply our roman blinds with blackout lining as standard, which is what makes them so good in bedrooms. It's included rather than charged as an upgrade.

How much of the window does a roman blind cover when it's up?

A roman keeps its folds at the top of the window when it's raised, so it never clears the glass completely the way a roller does. On a tall window you barely notice it. On a short one that stack matters, so we'll show you roughly how deep it sits when we come out to measure.

Can I have a roman blind in a kitchen or a bathroom?

Not over a hob, and not in a shower room. Fabric won't wipe clean and it holds steam and cooking smells. A roller or an aluminium venetian is the sensible answer in those rooms and we'll tell you so.

How do you clean a roman blind?

Go over it now and then with the brush head of the vacuum to keep dust out of the folds. What a particular fabric will take beyond that varies, so ask us while the sample is in your hand and we'll tell you straight.

What covers your blinds

Every blind comes with the manufacturer's warranty. It varies by blind and by manufacturer, so ask us and we'll tell you which warranty applies to the blind you are choosing before you order. Separately from that, we put them up, so if something goes wrong you ring us and we come out and look at it. This is in addition to — and does not affect — your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Read about warranties.

Child safety

Roman blinds are available cordless, or with the looped cord kept up out of reach. Most of those options cost nothing extra. Tell us at the quote that there are children or pets in the house and we'll sort the controls out then, rather than afterwards. Read about child safety.
