DIY Measuring Guide

If you'd like to take preliminary measurements yourself (e.g. to get a rough idea of sizing before your appointment), follow these steps:

1

Decide: Recess or Face Fix

Recess fit means the blind sits inside the window frame. Face fix means the blind is mounted on the wall above the window. Recess gives a cleaner look; face fix covers more of the window and is better for light blocking.

2

Measure the Width

For recess fit: measure the width at three points — top, middle, and bottom. Use the narrowest measurement. For face fix: measure the window width and add 50-75mm on each side for overlap.

3

Measure the Drop

For recess fit: measure from the top of the recess to the windowsill at three points — left, centre, and right. Use the longest measurement. For face fix: measure from 50mm above the window to where you want the blind to end.

4

Use a Metal Tape Measure

Always use a metal tape measure — fabric tapes can stretch and give inaccurate readings. Measure in millimetres for precision.

5

Check for Obstructions

Check for window handles, locks, trickle vents, and any other obstructions that might affect the blind's operation. Note their positions and sizes.

6

Measure Every Window Separately

Even windows that look identical can differ by several millimetres. Always measure each window individually — never assume they're the same size.

Pro Tip

Don't worry if your measurements aren't perfect — we always re-measure during our fitting visit to ensure accuracy. Your preliminary measurements help us prepare the right samples and give you a ballpark quote.
